Cottage Screen Doors

I just love an old fashioned style screen door on a sweet little cottage.  Here's a sampling of screen doors i've found for inspiration.  Love the color schemes!

Gray and white shingle style cottage with green and tan accents.  There is so much attention to detail here but it is still relaxed and comfortable.

Another green and yellow color scheme with a simple screen door.  Love the use of the cranberry accent color.

Another wonderful shingle style cottage example with a very simple white screen door.  Darker brown stain with white trim and blue accents.  Cottage style perfection!

Cottage Style Screened in Porches - Decorating Inspiration Photos

Nothing says summer more in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, than enjoying a cool beverage on your screen porch.  Trust me, you need those screens here as the Mosquito is our unofficial state bird.  My cottage has an adorable screen porch that we thoroughly enjoy in the short summer months.  I'm always looking for new ideas and inspiration. These are some beautiful examples of screen porch decorating styles.

This cheerful porch has lots of bright summery colors.  Just add some colorful lumbar pillows to those Adirondack chairs to soften them up a bit.  Maybe even a rug. This is a cute way to decorate a small cottage porch.

Don't be afraid to have some fun with color at your cottage.  This is a place to let your hair down.  Save the stuffy, monochromatic interior decorating for at home.

If you are afraid to paint your furniture a bright color then paint it white and use bright accessories like pillows and tablecloths.  Consider adding colored pots and/or pretty flowering plants.  You can always change these as your taste change and it won't cost much.

This porch has great seacoast style.  Where I am on the lake I don't usually use ocean themes like Seahorses or Starfish, but I love the colors. I particularly like the blue table and chairs and gingham rug.

This is a nice New England Style porch. Sometimes all you need are a few comfy rocking chairs and some flowers. Less is more.

Who wouldn't love a Fireplace on their porch to take the chill off on those cool evenings!  Plus you can make smores!

This porch is breathtaking! The fabrics and colors really bring sophistication to this rustic porch. Photo - Charlotte Moss's Hamptons screened porch - Elle Decor

Great use of color.  I have that same rug on my front porch! Love those green garden seats.

How to get cottage style on a flea market budget

Finding bargains to decorate your cottage or cottage style home can be a challenge.  If you don't mind spending time at fairs, flea markets and searching online for bargains, you can find some really fun stuff for great prices.  Like all things in life, you get back the effort that you put in.

Pottery Barn

If you watch for the sales, Pottery Barn has some great cottage finds.

Holbrook Seagrass Wingback Headboard from Potter Barn is only $399 for a full or queen sized bed!

I love these Pottery Barn Hyannis Lanterns.  They definitely give the cottage feel.  But you don't need to spend the high price for this look.  You can use Ball canning jars with colored stones or sea glass.

Flea Markets, Fairs and Yard Sales - Oh my!

I've found some of my greatest bargains at country fairs.  Every year my husband and I go to a fourth of July fair in a little New Hampshire town.  We have found antique beds for under $200, old blanket boxes and quilts, tables and chairs at prices you would normally see at yard sales!  We were so surprised the first year at the bargains that we bought a couple items on the spot and went back home to get our truck and returned later in the day to pick everything up.

One year, we were driving home from the very same fair and noticed Adirondack chairs and benches for sale on someone's front lawn.  This person made them himself and they were excellent quality at a great price. The bench we bought even folds so we can move it inside for the winter.  That was the only year he had chairs out for sale.  Just goes to show that you always need to be watching for those bargains and ready to snatch them at a moment's notice!

Don't be afraid to negotiate price.  The items are usually marked up with the expectation that you will haggle.  If I see multiple items that I want, I'll usually offer one price for the lot.

I hope this helps give you a few ideas to start your bargain hunting.  So get out there and let me know what steal and deals you find!  :-)
